This thesis is a Chinese-English translation report of Xue Mo's novel Bai Hu Guan.The purpose of this translation project is to provide some useful reference for the translation of local literature through translation practice.First of all,in the pre-translation analysis stage,this thesis analyzes the stylistic features of Bai Hu Guan,and as the translated text it has the following characteristics: 1.The most typical characteristic is the use of Liangzhou dialect and colloquial language;2.Reduplication has rhythmic features;3.The use of figures of speech is conducive to understanding and makes readers receptive to it;4.Folk adage is vivid and popular and the structure is stable;5.Vulgar language is close to life.In view of the above characteristics,this thesis adopts relevance theory as the guiding theory.In the course of translation,the author uses the methods of literal translation,free translation,transliteration,omission,literal translation with annotation,transliteration with annotation,substitution and other translation methods,and focuses on solving the translation difficulties of dialect,reduplication,figure of speech,folk adage,and vulgar language.It is a new attempt in the translation of local literature based on relevance theory.This study on the translation of local literature under the guidance of relevance theory enables foreign readers to appreciate excellent local literature works,further understand local literature,and highlight its important position in literary field.Meanwhile,the translation practice is beneficial for the foreign readers to further understand traditional Chinese cultures and promote cultural exchanges.Furthermore,through translation practice,the author has a deeper understanding of local literature,and realizes how to solve the difficulties encountered in the translation of local literature under the guidance of relevance theory particularly in translating dialect,folk adage,vulgar language,and reduplication to achieve optimal relevance.
