A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Excerpt Of Memories Of The New Fourth Army,an Iron Army· A Collection Of Fine Art Works

To commemorate the 70 th anniversary of the victory of the world anti-fascist war and the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression,an exhibition of fine art works themed as “Memories of the New Fourth Army,an Iron Army” was toured in China and held in America in August 2016.The exhibition looks back on the struggles and evolution of the New Fourth Army,reproduces the heroic and moving episodes during that time,showing the glorious history of the New Fourth Army.Its exhibition in America,answering the call of “Chinese culture going global”,will introduce to the international community China's history during the period of the New Fourth Army and the indomitable spirit of the Chinese people during the war of resistance against Japanese aggression,which is a great publicity opportunity.Based on her translation of the excerpt of Memories of the New Fourth Army,an Iron Army·A Collection of Fine Art Works,the author reviews the translation process in this report.The author presents the source and content of the translation project,collection of parallel text before translation,text analysis and the guiding theory of the translation and the proofreading work after the translation.The report mainly focuses on the case analysis of the translation problems and difficulties including the words and expressions with Chinese elements,the cohesion within text,the translation of the titles of paintings and the expressions and sentences for publicity purposes.The author presents the proposed translation to these challenges under the guidance of Gutt's relevance theory of translation.At last,the author reflects on translators' competence and ethics according to her own experience on this translation project.The report aims at giving insights to those who meet the same problems when translating.
