| The development of global shipping leads to a continuously strengthening exchanges and cooperation among nations, meanwhile, laws and regulations on marine provide with powerful legal guarantee for normal shipping orders. However these laws and regulations formulated and enacted by different nations must have their own characteristics. On the basis of Chinese edition Regulations on Watchkeeping for Seagoing Seafarers of the People’s Republic of China, the author attempts to translate it into English, by which aims to find out some reasonable methods for C-E translation in maritime laws and regulations.Functional Equivalence raised by American scholar E· Nida, when it was introduced to China in1980s has evoked significant effects in Chinese translation field. In this essay, guided by Functional Equivalence theory, the author analyzed marine laws and regulations from the views of lexicon and syntax, and made a breakthrough in translation which made the functional equivalence between source language and target language come true. Meanwhile, the version can reach faithfulness, and give consideration to expressiveness and elegance as much as possible.This translation report can be divided into four parts. First, the author made a brief introduction for this translation work and made some analysis of its character; second, a translation theory which is used in this translation work is introduced and the author briefly described the process of translation; third, some problems founded during the translation process were given some solutions; fourth, the author put forward a conclusion and gave some analysis for C-E translation of maritime legal language. |
