A Study On The Word-formation Of Zhashan Vernacular Of Wuhan Dialect

Zhashan is located in the west of Wuhan,which is a satellite town in the Caidian District of Wuhan.Since 1930s,some achievements have been made in the phonological,lexical and syntactical fields of Wuhan dialect.However,there is little exploration on the word-formation of Wuhan dialect till now.In addition,the current research on the Wuhan dialect only covers Hankou vernacular as it is regarded as the standard dialect of Wuhan dialect.As one of Wuhan dialects,Zhashan vernacular has not received enough attention,however,Zhashan vernacular also has its characteristics and deserves to be explored.The thesis aims at analyzing the word-formation pattern of Zhashan vernacular on the basis of its vocabulary.First of all,the local vocabulary will be recorded and collected by using the method of field investigation and observation.Then,the relevant theories and methods about the vocabulary research of Wuhan dialect will be studied from document analysis.Finally,the collecting data will be sorted out and classified,and there will be a systematic word-formation study on the word-formation of Zhashan vernacular by using relevant theories so as to conclude the word-formation pattern of Zhashan vernacular.The study finds that the word-formation of Zhashan vernacular mainly include reduplication,derivation,and compounding.The reduplication word-formation of Zhashan vernacular is abundant,which can be studied from three aspects,namely,the reduplication of nouns,the reduplication of verbs and the reduplication of adjectives.The derivational word-formation of Zhashan vernacular mainly includes the derivational words with prefixes,the derivational words with suffixes and the derivational words with infixes.The compounding word-formation of Zhashan vernacular is very similar to that of Mandarin Chinese,including the subject-predicate compounds,modifying compounds,verb-object compounds,verb-complement compounds and coordinate compounds,etc.All the three patterns show the lexical characteristics of Zhashan vernacular.Analyzing the word-formation of Zhashan vernacular is of great significance to explore the various dialects of Wuhan,to promote the communication among people in different regions,and to inherit and enrich the regional culture.
