In order to explore the relationship among the procrastination,self-esteem and ego identity of college students,we used the new active procrastination scale(NAPS),the self-esteem scale(SES)and the extended objective measure of ego identity status II(EOM-EISII)to carry out the studies.Participants of the present study are 652 college students from three comprehensive universities and a university of finance and law.We first distinguished the concepts of active procrastination and passive procrastination and examined the reliability and validity of the three scales.Then we explored and analyzed the relationships among the active procrastination,self-esteem and ego identity by using Wen's method to do the mediation test and established the structural equation model of the three variables.The main Results are as follows.1.The NAPS,SES and EOM-EISII all reach the standard of psychometric.2.Active procrastination has statistically significant positive effect on self-esteem and identity achievement but negative effect on identity difftusion.3.Self-esteem has statistically significant positive effect on identity achievement but negative effect on identity diffusion.4.Self-esteem partially mediates the effect of active procrastination on identity achievement statistically significantly and mediates the effect of active procrastination on identity diffusion statistically significantly.5.The differences of academic procrastination in grade,major and area are statistically significant.The differences of active procrastination in gender,grade and major are statistically significant.The difference of self-esteem in major is statistically significant.The difference of identity achievement in gender is statistically significant.
