This thesis is a translation report based on the author's translation of chapters 10-11 of A Woman in China.This book was written by Mary Guant and published in 2004 by Guangxi Normal University Press.In the two chapters,the author of the source text recorded Chinese women's pain of bound feet,the unfair treatments of women,the difficulties of getting back her lost luggage,the hospitality of the inn keeper's wife and the rebellions and unjust case owing to the corruption of the government.According to the language features of these two chapters,Jin Di's equivalent effect theory(EET for short,the same below)was chosen to guide the translation.The EET emphasizes three important concepts:the receiver concept,the effect concept and the equivalence concept.In this report,the author of it analyzes the linguistic features of the source text,introduces the author of the source text and some related concepts of the EET and clarifies that why the translator chosen the EET as the guidance theory briefly.Emphasis is laid on case analysis.In the fourth part,the author of this report analyzes the target text under the guidance of the EET at the levels of words and sentences.The author of the report hopes that this translation can help the target text readers to know the history of the last decades of Imperial China in a unique perspective,help to promote cross-cultural communication and provide valuable sinologicol study material for Chinese and overseas scholars.
