The E-C Translation Report On Minutes Of Pekin Syndicate Limited

Translation is not only the transformation process of language symbols,but also the transmission of information content.Information transformation must follow certain translation strategies,as Rice believes that “the analysis of text type is the premise of the choice of the translation strategy”.Therefore,selecting the appropriate translation strategy for the guidance of translation based on the text features of the source text after the analysis of the source text is the premise of ensuring the transformation quality of information.Taking the translation of minutes of Pekin Syndicate as an example,the thesis is an E-C translation report.In terms of text type,the minutes are a kind of informative text,focusing on conveying information.There are many terminologies spelled in the old spelling method--Wade-Giles Romanization and related to the history of the Republic years,which lays stress on unveiling the truth of history in a scientific and objective way during translation.At the same time,the minutes include detailed record and summary record,with direct speech and indirect speech separately which are different in sentence patterns but also complementary on information,the content of which are recordings of international business meetings.However,due to the limited recording time on the site,there are many grammatical and spelling mistakes,or some lack of words and phrases,and the content is not complete;the information of time,place and attendee and other information are very clear in the summary record except some information recording mistakes.In order to solve all of the above difficulties in the translation,translators should be serious in and responsible for their translation and ensure that the target text is loyal to the source text and easy to be understood by the target reader.To meet such strict requirements,the communicative translation theory was selected and applied in the translation of minutes.Based on the communication translation theory,different researches have been done on the translation of minutes from various perspectives such as transliteration and concretization to meet the translation of terminologies;reduplicated words,antonyms,addition,recombination,omission and other translation methods to meet the translation of direct speech and indirect speech.The above mentioned researches all made profitable explorations to the search of appropriate translation strategies and standards for the translation of minutes.
