This is a translation project report on Big Data and Analytic: Strategic and Organizational Impacts(Chapter 3 and 4)by Vincenzo Morabito, an Associate Professor at the Management & Technology Department of Bocconi University and a Research Scholar at both the Center for Information System Research, MIT Sloan School of Management(2006) and the Decision and Information Science Department, University of Florida. Chapter Three discusses how massive digital education systems like MOOCs, facilitate the distance learning aspects of formal education institutions and enable a peer-to-peer learning, illustrated by two cases studies where big data and analytics played essential roles in the design and delivery of the curricula. Chapter Four describes the impact of big data on each of the elements as identified in the Business model canvas and discusses the potential of big data for mass customization and personalization of product and services, focusing on a more specific definition of the term Business Model nowadays. The text type of the source text is informative. The translator sticks to the principle of functional equivalence proposed by Eugene Nida in the translation process, and puts more emphasis on communicative function, aiming to clear up misunderstandings and meet the requirement of target language. In this report, the author analyzes text types and linguistic features of the source text, introduces a guiding theory for the translation, and illustrates difficulties encountered during translating and their corresponding solutions. By combining translation theories with practices, the author gains an opportunity to comprehensively improve his translation competence, so as to lay a solid foundation for latter translation practice.
