Study On The Acceptance Of Liu Zongyuan's Poems In Ming Dynasty

Liu Zongyuan is a celebrated thinker and author in Tang Dynasty.As an ancient prose master,his poems are not as famous as his proses,but Liu Zongyuan's poems still occupy a very important position in the history of ancient Chinese poetry.The acceptance of Liu Zongyuan's poems in later ages also presents different characteristics.Song Dynasty is a peak in the history of acceptance of Liu Zongyuan's poems,and the acceptance of Liu Zongyuan's poems in Ming Dynasty inherits its former dynasty,at the same time,has come to a deep extent.Adoring the Tang poetry always existed in Ming Dynasty poetics,and poetics theories in Ming Dynasty were gradually professional and systematic,coupled with the size and number of Tang poetry anthologies reaching a peak,so this paper centres in the investigation of poetics and poetry anthologies in Ming Dynasty,from this two angles of poetic criticism and poetry anthologies to tidy and analyze the acceptance situation of Liu Zongyuan's poems in Ming Dynasty,and explores the social,historical,cultural and other reasons behind the accepted phenomenon.This thesis mainly consists of four parts,that is introduction,the body,conclusion and appendix.The introduction is divided into three sections—the origin and significance of the topic,the present situation of the study,and research ideas and research methods.The body is from these four aspects—poetry position,artistic origin,aesthetic style,genre comment to study the acceptance of Liu Zongyuan's poems in Ming Dynasty,therefore it is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses the affirmation and deepening of Liu Zongyuan's poetry position in Ming Dynasty.From the angle of the poetry,the critics in Ming Dynasty compared Liu Zongyuan to Li Bai and Du Fu who were great poets in Tang Dynasty.Moreover,some critics thought that Liu Zongyuan was good at composing poems,and considered him as a great master in poetry area.The scholars in Ming Dynasty regarded Liu Zongyuan as the rear guard of the ancient poetry of Tang Dynasty,and took his Five Words Ancient Poetry as the zessho of Ancient Poetry.Meanwhile,in the critics' opinion,it seemed that Wei Yingwu's Five Words Ancient Poetry was so natural that his ancient poems were more close to Tao Yuanming's poems,thus the achievements and status of Wei Yingwu were above on Liu Zongyuan.From here we can see that the scholars in Ming Dynasty have come to the further deep understanding about the position of Liu Zongyuanon's Five Words Ancient Poetry.The second chapter revolves around the awareness of artistic origin of Liu Zongyuan's poems in Ming Dynasty.These critics in Ming Dynasty had different ideas about relating Liu Zongyuan's poems to Tao Yuanming and Xie Lingyun.Some said his poems were close to Tao,others thought his poems were similar to Xie,even there was a few opposite voices;Concerning the origin relations between Liu Zongyuan's poems and Li Sao.Lu Shiyong put forward a viewpoint that Liu Zongyuan's Five Words Ancient Poetry was the successor of Li Sao,Which was the most typical statement.The third chapter discusses the interpretation on aesthetic style of Liu Zongyuan's poems.There were three kinds of claims: sad,depressed and high-deep,separately represented by Lu Shiyong,Xu Xueyi and Hu Yinglin in Ming Dynasty,which palyed an important role in the history of the interpretation on Liu Zongyuan's poetry style.Besides,to compare Liu Zongyuan's poetry style with Wei Yingwu's,and point out their common style of light.More importantly,this paper focuses on a fact that WeiYingwu's leisure differs from Liu Zongyuan 's high-deep and Wei Yingwu's calm differs from Liu Zongyuan 's depressed.It is beneficial for us to have a deeper understanding with Liu Zongyuan's poetry style.The fourth chapter states the acceptance of Liu Zongyuan's poetry genre,respectively from two aspects to study,that is Liu Zongyuan's Five Words Ancient Poetry and Modern Style Poetry are among the six kinds of Tang poetry anthologies in Ming Dynasty and poetical criticism on Liu Zongyuan's poetry genre in Ming Dynasty.In contrast,Liu Zongyuan's Five Words Ancient Poetry was paid more attention than his Modern Style Poetry.Due to the prevalence of the thought of genre identification,the critics commented Liu Zongyuan's Five Words Ancient Poetry with a standard of normal or change.Some thought that Liu Zongyuan's pomes were decent,and others held that his poems had some changes among his decent style,even a few critics found fault with Liu Zongyuan's poems,because he break the normal poetry genre,and it seemed to them that his poems were futile.In addition,some critics commended Liu Zongyuan's Modern Style Poetry to some extent.
