This translation project is excerpted from If You Can't Manage Them,You Can't Teach Them(Chapter5-Chapter8),which is written by Kim Campell and Kay Herting Wahl and published in March,2012 by Incentive Publications.Aiming at solving problems in class managing, this book is recognized as class managing and educational material, whose target readers are teachers in American primary and middle schools and other relevant educators. The authors of the book share their own experience in class managing and their strategies and methods of solving problems in these chapters with simple, plain and colloquial words. There is no Chinese version of this book at present. The author (also as the translator of this translation project)reads the material carefully and analyses its style and features before the translation. Finally, the author selects Reiss' Text typology as an instructional theory of this translating project.Focusing on analyzing text,Reiss' Text typology divides texts into three types, informative, expressive and operative.Reiss insists an idea of how to choose different translating strategies depending on corresponding text types.According to this theory,If You Can't Manage Them,You Can't Teach Them belongs to informative text whose language is logical.Informative text is content-focused.Thus,Target text of informative text should transmit the full referential or conceptual content of the Source text, the translation should be in plain prose, without the redundancy and with the use of explication when required.Guided by text typology theory and its translation strategies, the author translates this project. This translation report consists of five parts: description of translation project, process of translation, analysis of translation examples, summary after translation and the conclusion. The analysis of translation examples is the core part of this report. In this part, the author mainly analyses the specific translating methods to make the translation be faithful, fluent and clear under the guidance of Reiss' Text typology. The author realizes that translation is a tough work through translating this book.To be a qualified translator, there are still many things of different fields to learn. Therefore,to improve the author's comprehensive ability and the translation quality, more translation theories need to be studied and more translations need to be practiced.
