This is a translation report on If You Can't Manage Them,You Can't Teach Them(chapters 9-10).This is a book on classroom management for middle school teachers, which was written by American educators Kim Campbell and Kay Herting Wahl through their teaching experiences. In this book, the two writers give straight-talking advices and can-do strategies from their teaching experiences with humorous language style, which helps middle school teachers succeed at building the good relationships, mutual respect, and expectations for running a classroom without distress and chaos. The ninth and the tenth chapters generally introduce how to keep a good relationship between teachers and students and how to deal with inappropriate behaviors of students of different genders or ethnics.According to the Text Typology from Katharina Reiss, the source text features informative and operative functions, with the informative function as the main feature. The language function of informative text is representing objects and facts;its language dimension is logical;its text focus is content-focused;the target text should transmit referential content, and its translation should be explicitation with plain prose. At the same time, the version is required to have appellative function. The author takes “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance” as the standard and Text Typology as the guideline of translation. In the process of the project, flexible methods are used, such as amplification, omission, inverse translation and division,to conform to the logic of Chinese and make the translation easier to be understood and accepted by Chinese readers. The translation report is an overall review and summary of this project, containing project introduction, preparation before translation, case analysis and summary. The author deeply feels that translation is a kind of serious and prudent work, which asks the translator to thinkover repeatedly and be down-to-earth with excelsior spirit. At the same time, accumulating knowledge of different disciplines lays a foundation for the future work.
