A Report On Forum Interpreting For The Shandong Tourism Development Master Plan

The forum is conducted by a well-trained moderator in a natural way and relatively free environment to interview a small group of respondents.More importantly,it is the way of international-affairs exchange.Especially in today's intense intercourse of economy and culture across the world,the forum interpreters should be paid more and more attention.Due to the special roles played in the task of forum interpreting,participants may come from different countries,have different social status and identities,and even have different racial tendencies.Therefore,these features contribute to strict demands for forum interpreters.Except the necessary English spoken and interpreting qualities,a forum interpreter is supposed to be trained in certain special fields to increase the professional quality.In the interpreting for United Nations World Tourism Organization(UNWTO)in the forums about Shandong Tourism Development Master Plan,the author played dual roles of both an interpreter and a moderator in practicing.As a result,the function of such double rule is profoundly valuable to study,which embodies an integrated requirements of an interpreter,such as the preparation process of the entire work,the applications of interpreting skills,the on-the-spot performance,and the mentality adjustment during interpreting.Moreover,as a moderator,what the interpreter has to build is not only a bridge between two different languages,but also an emotional bond among participants from different fields or specializations.This dual-role study will be of great reference value to the interpreters who will be responsible for forum interpreting tasks.In addition,this report is based on the author's experience of forum interpreting whose theme is concerned about Shandong Tourism Development Master Plan.In this regard,the report also involves some tourism English interpretation.The report's first part is task description of the background and features of forum.The second is the task process,in which the author introduces pre-interpreting preparations,task executing process and introspection of the practice.In the third one,the author focuses on analyzing the errors encountered in the forums,and finds out reasons and solutions behind them.The final part is the conclusion of this interpreting practice which is about summary and gains in the interpreting experience as well as client's evaluation,and the author provides some recommendations for other interpreters to learn from,especially in the case of site forum interpreting.
