Fear of intimacy is the inhibited capacity of an individual,because of anxiety,to exchange thoughts and feelings of personal significance with another individual who is highly valued.Parental marriage conflict,not only affect the feelings of husband and wife,but also make the family atmosphere damaged,affecting their children's emotions and development of personality.Perception of interparental conflict in college students may be an important reason for their fear of intimacy.To explore the impact of perception of interparental conflict on fear of intimacy and the mediating role of self-esteem in such relationship in college students,a total of 532 college student were recruited to complete a series of questionnaires: The Children's Perception of Interparental Conflict Scale,Self-esteem Scale and Fear of Intimacy Scale.This study aims to alleviate the fear of intimate and provide some suggestions for enhancing the level of self-awareness for college students.The main findings of this study are as follows:First,the characteristic of the university students' perception of interparental conflict is that they are the most sensitive to conflict self attribution.University students with different gender,parents' marital situations and whether he/she is the only child and where he/she lives have significant differences in perception of interparental conflict.Second,university students with different gender,parents' marital situations and whether he/she is the only child and where he/she liveshave significant differences in self-esteem.Third,about the Differentiation of Fear of Intimacy Scale,it has some differences in demographic variables.In gender,the score of the boys is significantly higher than the girls.About where he/she lives,the score of the university students living in rural environment is significantly higher than the one living in urban environments.About whether he/she is in love,the score of the college students who have a sweetheart is significantly higher than the one who not have a sweetheart.Fourth,correlation analysis showed that university students' perception of interparental conflict was negatively correlated with self-esteem;self-esteem was negatively correlated with fear of intimacy,while perception of interparental conflict was positively related to fear of intimacy.Fifth,university student's self-esteem partly mediate the association between dimensions of self attribution,coping efficacy,conflict resolution in university student's perception of interparental conflict and fear of intimacy.In summary,university students' perception of interparental conflict not only has a direct effect on fear of intimacy,but also has an indirect effect on it through self-esteem.
