Song Dynasty as a peak period of China,is mature in many aspects whether in economy and politics,or in academic thoughts and art schools,all shining dazzling brilliance.The atmosphere of open politics and academy,combined with the rise of Confucianism,make the image-numerology school founded by Chen Tuan welcome a new stage in the Northern Song,and gradually penetrate in all aspects of social and cultural life of Song Dynasty.In this period,on the basis of the inheritance from Han Dynasty,the development of image-numerology theory emphasizes more on the thinking characteristics such as integrity,symbolic and function.Influenced by the prevalence of image-numerology,the famous scholar of the Northern Song Zhu Changwen,was not only educated by the image-numerology,but also applied it into the art practice.On the basis of knowing all subjects and artistic categories,Zhu Changwen extracted harmonious nature and mental image view of metaphoric symbolism from the artistic thought,which was in line with integrity and symbolic nature of the characteristics of image-numerology.According to the integrity of world and human,Zhu Changwen advocated the artistic creation should return to the most natural state and establish two kinds of relationship between world and human.That is to say,the relationship based on the combination of law and calendar,and the relationship based on the social development and natural laws,forming the nature view of his artistic thought.Influenced by the metaphoric symbolism,Zhu used its artistic expression to regulate and instruct the artistic activities,which formed his artistic mental image view of metaphoric symbolism.Song is another Dynasty in Chinese academic and cultural history that advocates academic debate and emphasizes on the cultural construction,after the Warring States period.During this period,another characteristic of the study of artistic theory is to view the theory from the perspective of philosophy.Influenced by the integrity and symbolic of image-numerology,the nature view and mental image view of Zhu Changwen,has great value and influence in the Northern Song even the later ages.The value of Zhu Changwen's artistic thought is mainly embodied in the two aspects highlighting the function of art and emphasizing “artistic experience”.His artistic thought has influence on his age and later ages mainly focusing on the art of calligraphy.And the two artistic books expressing his artistic thought,contribute more in carrying forward the traditional Chinese art culture,which makes the excellent arts can be inherited and carried forward constantly in the long river of history.
