Zhu Xi is not only a great master of Neo-Confucianism but also an excellent poet.On the basis of previous research results,this paper takes Zhu Xi's poetry creation in the area of Wuyi in Fujian Province as the research object by basing on the specific texts and combining the various aspects,such as the special historical and political environment of Song Dynasty,the trend of academic thought,the geographical folk custom in Wuyi,the environment of Zhu Xi's growth and education as well as his life experience,to illustrate Zhu Xi's advocacy of poetry formed in Wuyi,Fujian and the ideological thoughts and artistic characteristics of his poems.The Introduction part makes a general introduction to Zhu Xi and the current situation of the academic research on his poetry.The main body of this paper consists of three chapters.Chapter One shows that the mater's home-gates who were dominated by Neo-Confucianism but also embraced Buddhism and Taoism make a difference in Zhu Xi's thoughts,characters and his conception of poetic education.Zhu Xi praised highly archaic style and diminish with skills and promoted the criteria of poetic criticism that poems should be elegant and unconventional,plain and natural,vigorous and unconstrained.Chapter Two discusses the themes of Zhu Xi's four kinds of poems created in Wuyi,Fujian,namely the pastoral poems,didactic poems,friendship poems and impromptu poems.This chapter shows Zhu Xi's changes of thoughts and feelings undergoing in Wuyi,Fujian by describing the pastoral landscape in the countryside,his awareness of study and objects by exploring his experiences about daily studying and fast life,and the picture of his ordinary life by discussing his usual social intercourse and his concern about current affairs and people's livelihood.Chapter Three analyzes the artistic characteristics of Zhu Xi's poems created in Wuyi,Fujian.It shows that Zhu Xi's poetry creation has three stages,featuring in imitation in the early stage,changes,formed characteristics and various themes in the middle stage and low-spirited style in the late stage.Generally speaking,the language of Zhu Xi's poems is natural and plain.His poems are integral in word order and coherent in implication.Zhu Xi did well in line drawing and applied ordinary languages and the techniques of allusion,metaphor and analogy in his poems.Influenced by natural landscape,Neo-Confucianism,his characters and virtues and the environment and his mood,Zhu Xi's poems created in Wuyi,Fujian forms the aesthetic characteristics centered on elegant and unconventional style and combined with natural and vigorous and unconstrained styles.
