The Meaning Of "Knowing The Things" From Xiaoshan Huapu To The Current Flower-and-bird Painting

The research of this thesis is focus on the theory of “knowing the things” from the theoretical work XIAOSHAN HUAPU of Zou Yigui's,who was Qing Dynasty's flower-and-bird painter.“Knowing the things” is derived from the theory of “Eight Methods & Four Knows”,“Four Knows”refers to knowing the heaven,knowing the ground,knowing the people and knowing the things,among which knowing the things is the research direction of this thesis.This thesis will explore the meaning of “knowing the things” to flower-and-birds panting in a new perspective.Zou Yigui was a prominent painter in the times of Qianlong period,and his XIAOSHAN HUAPU is one of the important theoretical works in the developing history of flower-and-bird painting.In light of this,the opening of this thesis has the necessity to state the life and the thoughts of painting of Zou Yigui,which will be the foreshadowing of the main content and thus to unfold the discussion of the theory of “knowing the things” of XIAOSHAN HUAPU.This thesis compares the start point and differences by doing the literature research on the similar title,reviewing and presenting the relevant subjects with national analysis.In order to have a better understanding of the essential meaning of ‘”knowing the things” and to illustrate several considerations to flower-and-bird painting personally,I combine some classical paintings in the process of interpretation of the theory of “knowing the things” of XIAOSHAN HUAPU.In addition,aiming at exploration of the required theoretical guiding significance and the practical significance of the theory of “knowing the things” to current sketching of flower-and-bird painting,I have further elaborated the current flower-and-bird painting situation through a comprehensive research.The study achievements enable me to have a new recognition of the position of Zou Yigui and his XIAOSHAN HUAPU in the painting history and makes me reconsider its values.
