A Study On C-E Translation Of Network Catchwords-from The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

As a special kind of language variant and a product of the internet age,network catchwords,withtheir semantic features and cultural connotations,reflect the corresponding social forms,cultural life,and public psychology.With their rapid renewal and wide scope,network catchwords reveal the latest cultural direction and social dynamics of various countries and nationalities.However,due to differences inlanguages and culturebetween China and western countries,factors of culture and social circumstances of target readers should be considered in the translation of network catchwords.Therefore,the translation of network catchwords is not only a communicative problem,but also a cultural problem.Researchers have done lots of research on the translation of network catchwords,including their content,translation strategies and translation skills,trying to solve problems in the process of network catchwords translation.Based on the Skopos theory,this thesis analyzes and summarizesthe translation methods of the Chinese networkcatchword from its definitions,origins,characteristics and cultural connotations in specific cultural background.The thesis is mainly divided into five parts: the first part is the introduction,which mainly elaborates background of this study,purpose and significance of this study and the thesis structure.The second part is the literature review,mainly focusing on the previous studies about theapplication of Skopos theory and the translation ofnetwork catchwords respectively.The third part is the theoretical framework,which retrospects theSkopos theory andthe Chinese network catchword from theoretical aspects,making a theoretical basis for further application of translation methods onC-E translation of Chinese network catchwords.The fourth part is the main body of this thesis,from the perspective of Skopos theory,this part explores the C-E translation methods of Chinese network catchwords.Based onanalyzing a large number of examples,fiveC-E translation methods of Chinese network catchwords are summarized in this thesis as follows: 1)Literal translation 2)Transliteration 3)Annotation translation 4)Liberal translation 5)Innovation translation.The fifth part is the conclusion of this thesis,the author gives a summary to the whole study,in other words,from the perspective of Skopos theory,the C-E translation methods of network catchwords have a strong practicality in the practice of Chinese network catchwordstranslation,which meanwhile have important value and far-reaching significance in the development and exchange of different cultures all over the world.From the perspective of translation Skopostheory,this thesisanalyzes the cultural connotations and translation methods of Chinese network catchwords,aiming to make people understand moreaboutnetwork catchwords and can appropriately use translation methods in the special cultural background,so that the semantic and cultural connotationsof Chinese network catchwords can be accurately transferred to target readers and the information can be effectively delivered in cross-linguistic and cross-cultural communication.
