This is a translation project report on Why Smart People Hurt.The source text is chosen from an inspirational book written by a famous American psychiatrist Eric Maisel by name.Based on the study of mental disorder for many years,Eric Maisel pinpoints these often-devastating challenges and offers solutions based on the groundbreaking principles and practices of natural psychology.The translation project report contains four chapters: Chapter One introduces the background of the translation project,including the introduction of the source text,the translation task,textual analysis of the source text and the significance of the translation project.Chapter Two is about the procedure of the translation,including the preparations before the task,the procedure of translation and the post-translation management.Chapter Three is about the theoretical framework and how the translator solves the translation difficulties,based on Vermeer's Skopos Theory.Chapter Four summarizes the findings and reflects on the deficiencies in the translation project.Among the chapters,Chapter One and Chapter Three are the major sections.The present writer has learned a lot through this translation practice and its analysis as she has put in sufficient preparation which helps a lot.Translators need to be equipped with encyclopedic knowledge.No matter what kinds of text one translated,one should have a solid knowledge of both English and Chinese.Besides,daily translation practice is very important for a translator,as translation is a miscellaneous art,which takes time to perfect.Only by accumulating knowledge constantly can one be qualified for the translation work.
