Intervention Studies Of Group Guidance On Occupational Burnout Of Public Officers

In recent years, modern people have become more and more stressful with the development of society and economy, and more and more professionals have experienced occupational burnout consequently. Public officers, as a group who tops the list of occupational burnout, have gained special attention from relevant researchers.Occupational burnout is found to not only do damage to public officers' health, but bring negative effect to their organizations and social group. It is necessary to study occupational burnout of public officers, therefore, which is of great significance for their physical and mental health.Three parts are included in this study: (1) Based on the occupational burnout scale in previous studies and results of interview aimed at twenty public officers, study 1 established the Occupational Burnout Scale of Public Officers; (2) the Occupational Burnout Scale of Public Officers was used to examine 181 public officers in Jiangxia district in Wuhan; (3) Based on the findings from study 2, study 3 designed a program of group guidance aimed at occupational burnout of public officers. Firstly, based on the finding of pre-test, forty public officers with occupational burnout were chose and subsequently were allocated to treatment and control groups randomly. Then, treatment group was conducted with six times of group guidance, while control group received no guidance. After the guidance, the pre-test and post-test findings were analyzed to assess the effectiveness of the group guidance.The results revealed: (1) Emotional exhaustion, de-individualization and reduction in sense of achievement were included in the Occupational Burnout Scale of Public Officers, and it had good reliability and validity. (2) Physiological, psychological and behavioral manifestation were included in the occupational burnout of public officers,and its cause of formation could be divided into individual, professional or organizational and social aspects. (3) the score of occupational burnout in treatment group was significantly lower than control group, which suggested that the program of group guidance proposed in this study was beneficial in reducing occupational burnout of public officers.Finally, this study gave some advices of how to reduce occupational burnout of public officers from the perspective of individuals, organizations and societies separately.
