A Study On The Evolution Of Cultural Status Of Luoyang In The Northern Song Dynasty

Luoyang in the Northern Song Dynasty was the last glorious era in the history of ancient cities. During this period, Luoyang,as the provisional capital of Song Dynasty,the most attractive aspect of it was not the prominent political status of it,but was the scholar-bureaucrats which were gathered in Luoyang,to create many brilliant academic and cultural achievements, to promote Luoyang into the peak of cultural development,and soon it became the famous academic and cultural center of the Northern Song Dynasty. And the whole cultural development level of Luoyang in the Northern Song Dynasty is not immutable, but has shown a band of development and change in the role of many historical factors .The first part of the text mainly tells us that,experiencing the destruction of wars in the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, Luoyang was set to be a provisional capital after the establishment of the Northern Song Dynasty, in a more stable environment, due to its high political status and Song Tai Emperor Zhao Kuangyin's preference, the city's construction was quickly recovered.The Northern Song government implemented the policy of emphasizing the culture and education,under the impetus of the kings in the early Song dynasty,the cultural development of the Northern Song Dynasty gradually showed prosperity, and the cultural development of Luoyang was also in the state of recovery in this favorable condition.The second part mainly talks about the relationship between the two major political reform movements in the middle period of the Northern Song Dynasty(The Qingli New Deal and the Wang Anshi Reform)and Luoyang's cultural development. During the Qingli New Dea,more and more scholar-bureaucrats became awakening and felt the country as their responsibility, with a strong spirit of reform. At the same time, it is also the beginning of the official large-scale schooling in the Northern Song Dynasty. This is also a good foundation for the prosperity of the cultural development in Luoyang, which is rich in cultural heritage. And Wang Anshi Reform caused the division of the court, at that time many important figures of the court, such as Si Ma Guang, Wen Yanbo and other people were relegated to Luoyang, together with many native famous academic scholars in Luoyang,such as Shao Yong,Cheng Yi,Cheng Hao,and so on, therefore Luoyang became old party camp to against the new law, and in the synergies of a large number of outstanding officers, Luoyang finally became a national academic and cultural center.The third part mainly talks about the relationship between the three major po litical events in the late period of the Northern Song Dynasty(Yuanyou party strug gle,Shaosheng politics and chongning ban on political parties) and the developmen t of Luoyang culture. The party struggle in the late Northern Song Dynasty was i ntensified and the political environment was also deteriorated, which was a seriou s blow to Luoyang where there used to gather a large number of scholar-bureaucr ats, and the loss of the talent caused the development of Luoyang culture into d ecline.The fourth part mainly discusses several factors which contributed to the development of Luoyang culture in the Northern Song Dynasty. The development of political change is the most important factor, in addition to Luoyang's own location advantages and the development of printing also played an important role.The prosperity of Luoyang culture has important historical significance for the present and future generations.Through the above analysis, we can see that the development of Luoyang's cultural development in the Northern Song Dynasty is closely related to the political development of the Northern Song Dynasty, and to a certain extent it reflects the rise and fall of the Northern Song dynasty.With the gradual collapse of the Northern Song dynasty,the last time of prosperity in ancient Luoyang had come to an end, and gradually became an ordinary city.
