A Research On M.Ed.in English Candidates' Ability In Instructional Design

In order to adapt development of education in china,M.Ed.in English was set up in1996.M.Ed.in English candidates of the successors of our future education,and their ability to design teaching affect the quality of education in our country.Therefore,it is significant to study the present situation and influencing factors of Instructional design ability of M.Ed.in English candidates so as to improve the quality of English education.The research instruments of this research are questionnaire and interview,the sample of the research is 59 M.Ed.in English candidates in Shanxi Normal University.The research questions are as follows:1.How are M.Ed.in English candidates' abilities to analyze English curriculum standards,students' situation and teaching material?2.How are M.Ed.in English candidates' abilities to design teaching objectives,teaching procedures and homework?3.How are M.Ed.in English candidates' abilities to design self-reflection and improvement?Major findings are as followed:Firstly,the ability to design teaching of M.Ed.in English candidates is not satisfactory.Secondly,The English Instructional design ability of M.Ed.in English candidates is very different.The ability to design and use teaching strategies and methods is the best while the ability to design evaluation is the worst.Finally,the influencing factors of Instructional design ability of M.Ed.in English Candidates include personal factors,factors of schools and factors of internship school.Personal factors is the most important,includes lack of theory knowledge of design teaching,lack of practice of design teaching and the ignorance towards English curriculum standards.Some suggestions are presented to solve the above problems.Firstly,M.Ed.in English candidates should study carefully the theory of English Instructional design so as to improve their attainment of English Instructional design.Secondly,M.Ed.in English candidates should practice designing English teaching as much as possible and put what they have learnt into practice to improve their ability of designing English designing.Thirdly,M.Ed.in English candidates should study English curriculum standard carefully frequently so that they can know new thought in English teaching and they can design English teaching more successfully.Fourthly,universities should set more courses about English Instructional design to pass more knowledge about English Instructional design to M.Ed.in English candidates.Finally,universities should provide more opportunities of English Instructional design for M.Ed.in English candidates,such as to hold exam and so on.
