Museum International, founded in 1948, is an authoritative journal on world heritages sponsored by UNESCO, with the purpose of promoting interdisciplinary research,enhancing exchange of heritage policies and international expertise, introducing the best method of protecting and properly collecting cultural heritage, and providing informational support for decision makers in an ever-changing culture environment. The contents of the journal involve such disciplines as museology, sociology, archaeology, linguistics, and history, etc. The interdisciplinary nature of this journal has brought some difficulties to the English-Chinese translation,posing great challenges to the translators.Professor Wei Qingqi the author's supervisor, is responsible for the Museum International Chinese Translation Project. The author is privileged to take part in the project and translates three papers in the journal. Based on the translation practice, and employing Nida's functional equivalence theory and Bell's functional translation theory, the author first analyzes the difficulties in the translation of words,sentences and texts. Then,to tackle the difficulties, the author proposes corresponding translation strategies and methods with specific examples. In the translation of words, methods such as foreignization, domestication, conversion of part of speech, and omission should be used.When translating sentences, the following steps should be followed: 1) analyzing sentence structure; 2) clarifying temporal and spatial relations; and 3) straightening out the logical relations. Cohesion and coherence should be paid great attention to in textual translation.Finally, the author summarizes the experience of the translation project, and puts forward some suggestions for the translation of similar academic journals to provide implications for other translators.
