Translation has provided great convenience for the exchange of languages between different countries. With the flourishing development of academic research, the demand for translation of academic texts has increased rapidly. However,at present, the quality of translation of academic papers varies greatly, which greatly limits the development of translation of academic papers. This is a translation report on International Encyclopedia of Education,Third Edition which contains four academic papers under the guidance of the supervisor. The report is composed under the guidance of Eugene A Nida's theory of functional equivalence. The author firstly analyzes the typology and features of source text.and in the process of translation, the author also summarizes translation strategies and methods for academic paper translation to solve problems at lexical, syntactic level and discourse level. The findings of the report indicate that translators should follow the principles of functional equivalence—equivalence at lexical, syntactic, discourse and style in the process of translation. And also, translators should not only pay attention to the equivalence of information between the original text and the source text, but also to the effect of the reception of information. In order to achieve equivalence at lexical level, translators should analyze features of source text and target language and choose the most appropriate meaning of the word to make the translation more natural. In addition, translators should adopt methods of conversion, division and restructuring, and amplification and omission to convey information correctly under the guidance of functional equivalence and make the translated texts conform to the readers' habits. At last, translators should pay attention to keep the logic coherence of the translation consistent with that of source text.
