The thoughts of filial piety and righteousness are the mainstreams of Chinese traditional culture.They are the important ethical principles of Confucianism.And they are regarded as the governing ideology of dynasties to rule the people.In the Ming Dynasty,Neo-Confucianism rose to the political level,and the thoughts of Filial piety and righteousness had became the tool for the rulers to civilize the people.The Ming Dynasty government and society advocated Filial piety and righteousness,the rulers believe that schools are the main places to educate people.Commending and awarding people who has good character.What's more,the government issue the regulations to support the elders and respect the people who support the old.Promulgating laws and regulations(Ming Dynasty laws,Dagao etc.)to protect people who carry out filial piety.Officials and intellectuals in the Ming Dynasty society actively promote filial piety.and the family and village rules are enacted to ensure people adhere to the filial piety.For people,if there is a person who adheres to the filial piety,the local people will be moved and learn to him.In this context,based on Shanxi local chronicles materials,celebrities collected works and other related documents.The filial piety of Shanxi people has been researched.There are four kinds of Shanxi filial piety types which are dutiful son,dutiful wife,righteous man,righteous woman.There is an unbalance in the distribution.There are more in the south of Shanxi than the north.In the strata,there is a large number of peasants,and the intellectuals,bureaucrats which are the second and third places.In the behavior,some people only have filial piety or righteousness,and some people have both filial piety and righteousness.And there are some similar parts also some different parts between men and women when they behave to have filial piety and righteous.About filial piety,the main forms are the funeral customs,supporting parents,waiting on the diseases,which all have the meanings of helping people but they are not the same.Men always relieving,however,women preserving chastity after their husbands death.It can be concluded that the characteristics of the Ming Dynasty's Filial piety and righteousness culture are easy to understand and the people are more easily to accept.And they are more mysterious,which had the filial piety phenomenon.The filial piety and righteousness culture are extreme ignorance,absolute obedience to parents and the monarch and the extreme actions of filial piety had shown up.The groups of filial piety and rightness then plays a positive role in maintaining social stability,and forming a good social atmosphere.At the same time,there are also some negative effects such as simple-mindedfilial piety,the blood affection is superior to law and fettering women and so on.It also has a significant impact on filial piety and rightness of Qing Dynasty and the lack of filial piety and rightness in today's society.
