China has attract world attention in the 21st century, with the rapid economy development of and comprehensive national strength, "Chinese Learning"has been remain hot in the global. Adhering to the principle of "innovation,cooperation, tolerance, and sharing," currently 511 Institutes and 1073 classes have been established in 140 countries, up to 2.1 million people (Confucius Institute 2016 annual report), it has become the "bridge builder" between Chinese and the world civilization communication,an important window to better understand China, and deepen friendship and cooperation. In 2005, Tianjin Normal University and University of Nairobi co-hosted the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi,the first Confucius Institute in Africa. Being built under the concept of "friendship,cooperation, development, win-win", focus on the connotation development, and constantly explore and innovate the mode of Confucius Institute in Africa with the purpose of language promotion,cultural exchanges,personnel training, It has been known as "Milestone of education in the history of China and Kenya."Chinese promotion is a long-term cause, under such good circumstance,it has become necessary for us to continuously improve the quality of teaching and teaching level,for the purpose of consolidating the cornerstone of Chinese promotion.Compared with Chinese characters, Pinyin is easy to accept, easy to learn and write, but it is also easy to cause dependency. Due to the complexity of Chinese characters, many students have a sense of fear and exclusion, which has seriously negative impacts on the Chinese learners learning process. However, the carrier of Chinese written language is Chinese characters. Chinese learners can be only considered as Chinese master by mastering Chinese characters and cultivating strong listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. it is worth deep consideration to properly deal with the relationship between phonetic teaching and Chinese characters in the early stage.In this paper, the different teaching methods has been investigated for Kenyan local teachers and Chinese teachers in the case of Kenyan students studying Chinese initial phonetic and Chinese characters, based on two years of practical experience of Chinese volunteer teachers at Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi. On the basis of the comparison, summarize, induction and reflection, suggestion has been made to correctly handle the relationship between Pinyin and Chinese characters for teaching of foreign language,It's the writer's honor make trivial contribution to improve the teaching efficiency and Chinese teaching quality.
