Confucius Institute at San Francisco University of Quito in Guayaquil is located in Ecuador,and with the help of Hanban provide chinese classes to Ecuadorian students.Ecuador is a non-Chinese cultural circle country.The official language is Spanish.Spanish is written using Latin Script,while Chinese Characters use Pictographic Script.As a result students think chinese characters are difficult to read,write and remember.Some Ecuadorian students because of this reason quit their chinese studies;other students even if they get used to write pinyin,they refuse to write characters;there are even students who study very hard how to write characters,but the results are not the ideal,because they still have many problems when reading and writing.In order to research the current situation of teaching chinese characters in Confucius Institute at San Francisco University of Quito,and give them an efficient teaching chinese character method,the author first does a questionnary.Secondly,to fully understand this Confucious institute teaching chinese character,the author uses the observation method to describe the actual basic chinese character method.Thirdly,makes an experiment where two different classes use different teaching chinese characters methods.Finally,the same test is performed on the two classes to understand students grasp of Chinese Characters and to sum up effective teaching methods of Chinese Characters at the primary stage.The teaching chinese characters methods used by the author in the experiment include:chinese character decomposition,chinese character radical method,character and word association teaching method,character visual representation,near form comparison,and chinese character and chinese culture teaching combined method.At the end,a test demonstrates that using a variety of interesting teaching chinese characters helps students to remember in a better way the character's shape,meaning and usage.For this reason,the author proposes that in a primary stage,teachers should use a variety and targeted teaching chinese character methods.
