Research On Zaoshi Wang's Thought Of National Character Transformation

In recent years,China has been faced with the internal revolt and foreign invasion.Many national sovereignty is plundered by foreign powers;people are oppressed by the powers;Country is faced with the crisis of subjugation and genocide.Many advanced intellectuals urgently hope to change China with seeing the national crisis,so they began the implements reform,system reform and culture reform.But they failed in every reform,which made them introspect on how to change China ' s current situations of being invaded and oppressed,as well as on how to save the nation from subjugation and ensure its survival from these failures,and this is also the main purpose of current Chinese patriotic intellectuals proposed the national character reform.During the flood flow of this reform,Wang Zaoshi published a large number of articles in “the Crescent periodical” ”Claims and criticism” “Liberal Forum” to reveal Chinese national character and proposed to the reforming nationality.The whole article is mainly divided into 5 sections.Introduction summarizes the research situation on Wang Zaoshi and generally introduces this subject.Chapter I analyzes the historical background of Wang Zaoshi's ideology of national nature reform.Its backgrounds are the Chinese continual deepening national crisis since late Qing dynasty,the failure in exploration of saving country by advanced intellectuals since modern times and the influence of western democracy thought.Chapter II analyzes the revelation of national nature and the reform of it proposed by the ideology of national nature reform majorly based on the “ Absurdity Collection ”and articles published on “the Crescent periodical” wrote by Wang Zaoshi.Wang Zaoshi reveals the nationality from four aspects: the lack of national identity,selfish and hypocritical nature of the nation,weakened national initiative and the national lack of reason.Meanwhile,Wang Zaoshi's states the proposition to remould nationality from three aspects: the first is to establish democracy and improve democratic participation in politics;the second is to protect the integral nation,develop the national economy and enhance national identity;the third is to emancipate the mind,restore national self-confidence and strengthen the development of personality.Chapter III mainly analyzes the evaluation of the national nature reform ideology proposed by Wang Zaoshi.Divided by "September 18 th Incident",the change of Wang Zaoshi's nationality remolding ideology before and after that is closely related to the anti-Japanese war situation,and his claim to transform nationality has some certain positive impact on the promotion of the national awakening,accelerating the spread of modern national ideas,promoting the establishment of democracy;in the special historical period of the anti-Japanese war,his thoughts are beneficial to national participation in anti-Japanese War,national self-defense and to restore national self-confidence.However,Wang Zaoshi's nationality remolding ideology also has some limitations.The experience of Republic of China and the studying experience in western countries make him accept the Western democratic thought but has one-sidedness in the knowledge of Chinese tradition as well as the unclear recognition on the essence of Nationalist Party in Chiang Kai-shek's period.There is also a certain idealism in the specific practice.The conclusion section concludes the whole article and extents its connotation,mainly states that the national nature reform was a necessary task and the ideology of it had exerted positive effects in modern times.The national nature reform ideology of Wang Zaoshi has both similarities and differences with that of Hu Shi,but there is no doubt that they all had positive influences on the awakening of Chinese national awareness and were beneficial to spread the Chinese national awareness,enhance citizens' state concept and their loyalties to the country,promote them to actively participate in the national defense undertaking.
