Research On Du Yaquan's Nationalism

Du Yaquan was a representative figure who advocated "harmony" during the May4 th Movement.In the face of the national crisis since the late Qing Dynasty and the fierce conflict between "China" and "West","New" and "Old",its ideological response is different from radicalism's "all-round westernization" and conservatives' adherence to tradition.Instead,it advocates the theory of continuism as the basis of reconciliation,reconciling the new with the old,the middle with the west,and rebuilding the Chinese cultural system by learning from each other's strengths and weaknesses.He calls for national political reform and national transformation,advocating policy reduction,reducing bureaucracies,officials and salaries,in order to cope with the huge bureaucratic system,"to encourage social policies,to relieve the suffering of the people in the lower Soviet Union",to break the formalism of traditional bureaucracy,and to highlight its nationalist goal of focusing on the internal construction of a modern nation-state.Du Yaquan believes that education is the fundamental method of social reform.He advocates universal education,reforms education,improves the educational system,and promotes the modernization of the nation and even the country through the development of education.Du Yaquan believes that the focus of China's economic development is industry.He pointed out the drawbacks and particularities of industrial development,and demanded to absorb the experience and lessons of industrial development in the West and China,and guide China's industrial development with principles and policies that are in line with China's reality.Based on the goal of national state in modern sense,Du Yaquan calls for the transformation of China's national character.While criticizing the root of national inferiority,Du emphasizes the importance of national morality for national development,incorporates new morality into the reconstruction of national character,and expects to achieve the goal of national and national prosperity with the logic of building a nation.In the historical framework and ideological logic of the construction of modern China's national state,Du Yaquan's proposals on the reconstruction of Chinese national culture,the reform of politics,the development of education and the transformation of nationalities are of positive significance to the construction of modern China's national state,which fully reflects the nationalist demands of modern Chinese intellectuals in specific historical situations.
