The material used in the translation practice report belongs to the travel notes text. The paper will focus on the study of Chinese-English text translation characteristics and skills of travel notes, guided by Nida's functional equivalence theory, and probe into the structural features of travel notes text, the principle and key points of Chinese-English text translation faced in the translation practice of travel notes.Of course, there are differences between the study of Chinese-English text translation of travel notes and the study of tourism translation.Because travel notes focusing on travel experiences are stronger on narrative, the emotional expression should be paid more attention to in translation practice of travel notes than that of tourism translation.Compared to fruitful achievements in academic research on tourism translation, the study of Chinese-English text translation of travel notes is still in marginalized status. For the text style of travel notes is close to descriptive, and these notes have strong narrative functions in the respects of portraying personage, depicting objects and showing scenery. Therefore, this paper will focus on discussion of the theory and practice of travel notes Chinese-English translation. This report consists of five chapters.Firstly,in Chapter One,the author makes a brief introduction to the translation works, including the source, the objective, the significance of the translated article, the key features of the travel notes text and the status of the study of Chinese-English text translation of travel notes.Secondly,In Chapter Two,the author introduces the translation process. The paper uses the published travel notes as the basic materials of the study of Chinese-English translation practice, which recorded a tourist's experiences in the forest area of Greater Khingan.Nine chapters in the travel book are selected to be the basic materials, each of which consists of four aspects:history, geographical environment, local residents' lives and the author's experiences.Based on adequate reading and understanding, translation tools are used in the preliminary translation of the nine chapters, such as Chinese-English dictionaries,English-English dictionaries, online translation dictionaries, online database and relative terminological dictionaries of tourism. After that, the preliminary translation will be improved through several procedures, including proofreading, revising, refining, and adjusting structure of translation according to the logic of paragraphs.Concluding and summarizing the characteristics and skills of translation from translation practice will be rationally conducted.Thirdly,in Chapter Three, the author gives the introduction to functional equivalence theory that guides translation practice of travel notes.Through the translation practice, functional equivalence theory has significant meaning in guiding the Chinese-English text translation of travel notes. In the process of translation practice,in accordance with the requirements of semantic equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence, relative translation principles and standards are summed up,and the accuracy of information's translation and the feasibility of language are attached much importance to.Moreover, the translation does not rigidly adhere to the form of the original text.It steps out of the box by adopting some means, such as changing numerous for brief, paying attention to word selection, treating a sentence as a unit, and organizing chapters by logical arrangements of sentences.Next,in Chapter Four,a great many specific examples from the translation practice are given, which reflects how the functional equivalence theory guides the skills of Chinese-English text translation of travel notes. These skills include flexible application of transliteration, literal translation and free translation, extending in meaning in translation, conversion of part of speech in translation, positive translation and negative translation, split translation and combined translation, and annotated translation and so on.Finally,in the last chapter, the author summarizes the translation experience:the theory can not only guide practice reasonably, but also can be used to supervise and check the accuracy of translation practice and the appropriateness of language expression. The translation should reflect the translator's strict work attitude and the translator must prevent the decrease in translation quality caused by omission. In addition, making the best of translation tools is very important.Translators should choose the correct translation tools and use them properly. As to practical functions, the translation of travel notes can not only provide basic materials for theory and practice research in relative academic sectors, but also will make contributions to the publicity function of the local tourism industry.
