A Translation Report On Letters Of A Traveller(American Part)

In resent years, the literary form of travel notes introduced from foreign countries has been popular among Chinese readers. Numerous Chinese versions have been released, but the overall quality of these translations is yet to be improved. Studies on translation of this type of literature are also rarely seen, which indicates that the translation of travel notes has not received enough attention.This article is a translation report, which is under the guidance of the functional equivalence and based on the translation of the Letters of a Traveller(American part). It is an analysis, introduction, research and summarization of the translation text, process and the results. The most important part of this translation report is the analysis of the translation examples in the third chapter, in which the writer refers to the difficulties during the translation in detail, including the normalization of proper names, the translation of long sentences, and the deviation of the semantic understanding. Finally, under the guidance of the functional equivalence, the writer found the corresponding solutions, and summarized the translation strategies and skills of the same kind of questions.By using different translation strategies, combining the language, literature and culture together, this report is aimed to analyze the problems during the writer’s translation practice, summarize the translation principles and methods in travel notes, put forward suggestions for the study and practice of translation in the future. At the same time, the writer hopes to understand the functional equivalence deeply, made it better to guide the translation of travel notes.
