The present report comes from the first two chapters of the translation of the book Magic,Science,Religion and the Scope of Rationality.It mainly talks about magic,science and religion in western thought,Edward Tylor and Malinowski's different ideas about magic,Malinowski's demarcations and his exposition of the magical art,multiple orderings of reality,rationality,relativism,the translation and commensurability of cultures,and modern science and its extensions.The report includes four parts.In the first part,the author describes the translation task and introduces the significance of the task.Part two describes the task process from three aspects: pre-translation preparation,process of translation and proofreading.The work performed by the author to guarantee the quality of the translation has been contained.The third part is case analysis,and the basic theory employed in this chapter is J.C.Cartford's translation shift theory.On the basis of summarizing my experience in translation practice and drawing on the former research achievements,the author aims to explore the method of lexical shift in translation process and makes a summary accordingly.What's more,a preliminary study of the transformation of predicate verbs is included in the paper.This part can be divided into the following several parts: the significance of lexical shift in translation practice,to be specific,lexical shift of adjectives,lexical shift of prepositions,lexical shift of adverbs,and lexical shift of nouns.The transformation of predicate verbs is briefly dealt with,too.The author also analyses the positive effect of lexical shift on the quality of the target text,and summarizes the situations in which the part of speech of the word can be shifted.The conclusion is the last part of the whole report,and in this part,the author makes a comprehensive summary.
