Based on the E-C Translation of the introduction to Entrepreneurship,Innovation and Regional Development written by Jay Mitra,professor of University of Essex,this paper discusses the problems occurring in the translating process under the guidance of semiotic theory,including syntax,semantics and pragmatics.The problems are related to the linguistic,referential and pragmatic meaning on lexical and syntactic levels.Lexically,this paper covers translation of proper nouns and terminology,discrimination,extention and substitution of words,and transformation between nouns and verbs,abstract words and concrete words as well as static meaning and dynamic meaning.Syntactically,the translation of long complicated sentences is focused on.Finally,according to the analysis of problems in E-C Translation practice,the corresponding translation strategies and methods are concluded from the perspective of semiotics.
