A Report On The Translation Of Chapter Five Of The Discourse Of Court Interpreting:Discourse Practices Of The Law,the Witness And The Interpreter

This is a report of the translation of Chapter Five of The Discourse of Court Interpreting:Discourse Practices of the Law,the Witness and the Interpreter,a monumental work laying solid foundation for court interpreting.This work has not been translated into Chinese,and it mainly analyzes problems in court interpreting based on data collected from Australia courts through such methods as match-disguise technique from the perspectives of pragmatics and speech style.Chapter five focuses on Spanish speaking witnesses' answers and the interpreters' corresponding renditions.In terms of typology,this book belongs to language for special purpose with academic feature,so it is indisputable that the translation should adhere to relevant translation standards of academic work;in terms of function of legal texts,it can be regarded as primarily descriptive but also prescriptive text,thus the principle of legal translation should also be taken into consideration.In this report,the author firstly introduces features of the book,and then analyzes this translation lexically and syntactically according to House's translation quality assessment modal.Based on what have learned about legal translation,the author summarizes both pros and cons of this translation practice for legal translation learners,hoping to provide some experience and reference in such issues as legal equivalence and translation quality assessment.
