This report is based on the author's experience as a translator at the Chinese section of UN Verbatim Reporting Service at New York from July 5th to September 2nd in 2016.During the internship,the documents translated by the author are mainly verbatim records of the meeting speeches by the General Assembly,the Security Council and the Disarmament Commission.The contents include Children and Armed Conflict,Peacebuidling and Sustaining Peace,Implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the Political Declarations on HIV/AIDS,the Implementation of the Note by President of the Security Council.In this report,the author firstly elaborates on the internship project of United Nations,mainly including the features of Chinese section of UN Verbatim Reporting Service,the translation assistance tools used during work and the tools used for searching official documents.Secondly,according to the revised version and comments made by the supervisors,the author summarizes some common translation mistakes and then studied the cases combined with the semantic translation theory by the British translation theorist—Peter Newmark,in order to enhance the translation ability of the official documents.The author believes that this internship experience both improves the translation skills and deepens the understanding of related translation theory.Meanwhile,the author hopes that this report can provide some useful information to the students who are willing to apply to the UN internship program. |
