A Study On Consecutive Interpreting Norms Of Press Conferences

China-South Asia Expo(CSA Expo)is a large-scale international exhibition approved by the State Council of China,sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the People's Government of Yunnan Province,and co-sponsored by the ministries of commerce of South Asian countries.China Kunming Import and Export Fair(Kunming Fair)is also an annual event for Yunnan Province.The 1st China-South Asia Expo and the 21 st Kunming Fair were jointly held in Kunming in June 2013.Built on the success of the past four sessions,these two events have grown into a significant platform for China to deepen its cooperation and exchanges in terms of diplomacy,economy,trade and culture with South and Southeast Asian countries.Undoubtedly press conferences for the Expo and the Fair play a crucial role in enhancing mutual understanding between other countries and Yunnan Province even though the press conferences for the Expo and the Fair don't receive as much attention as the press conference for National People's Congress(NPC)and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC)held in March every year.Because most foreign reporters have no knowledge of Chinese,interpreters are so important to guarantee the press conference to go on well.This thesis aims at studying the consecutive interpreting of the press conference for the 3rd China-South Asia Expo and the 23 rd Kunming Fair from the perspective of Andrew Chesterman's translation norms.Translation norms can be classified into expectancy norms and professional norms are two major translation norms.Thus,this thesis is going to formulate relatively practical consecutive interpreting norms based on these two translation norms.This thesis includes 5 chapters.Research background,research objectives,research methodology,research significance and layout of the thesis are presented in the first chapter.The second chapter is the literature review of domestic and foreign studies in terms of press conference interpreting as well as interpreting norms.The third chapter will present the theoretical framework of this thesis and the fourth chapter will analyze the transcript based on Chesterman's expectancy norms and professional norms and arrive at effective strategies.As for the last part,it will present the findings and shortcomings of the thesis.
