Cognitive linguistics, which was established in the late 1980 s,is a kind of experiential science based on the cognitive perspective.Prototype category theory is an important part of cognitive linguistics, and it has become one of the hot topics in the field of linguistic research in the world.Based on the objective cognition of the world,Prototype theory categorizes the material world with a new method.Cognitive linguistics holds that the phenomenon of polysemy in linguistics can also be explained by the theory through three modes: the chain category, the radial category and the comprehensive category. However, there has been little research on the translation strategies guided by the prototype theory so far,and this topic has great potential and development space,so the research of vocabulary translation strategy under prototype theory does have some research value.Under the guidance of the prototype theory, the translator makes a detailed translation of the seventh chapter of the book Thinking and Reasoning, which is written by a famous psychologist Ken Manktelow and whose main research content is reasoning psychology. The book also involves interdisciplinary professional terminology and fixed expressions. The language phenomenon of polysemy appears frequently in the process of translation, the translator analyzes the translation strategies and methods of the polysemy according to the prototype theory. At the same time, the translator summarizes the translation strategies and translated versions integrated with the specific characteristics of the source text. The translation practice of this book has proved that the prototype theory plays an important role in the selection and application of polysemy translation strategies, and can improve the accuracy and readability of the translation.
