The emperor sitting on the throne and the voice spreading throughout the country relies on the power of the imperial edict.It is the official document style which used to be issued orders and notices to the subjects by the emperor of feudal society.This paper aims to discuss the name,origin,certificate authority,literary form's characteristic,literary value and practical function of the imperial edict from the perspective of literature and stylistics.This paper first reviews the compilation of the Jin Dynasty's imperial edict,introduces the current research state of the edict's literary form and expounds the purpose and research significance.The Chapter One discusses the definition of the edict's literary form,traces its origins and categories combining with the development of the edict's certificate authority and system before the period of the Jin Dynasty,including the Jin Dynasty.In order to discuss the idea of the imperial edict in the Jin Dynasty,the Chapter Two divides the history of two hundred and fifty-six years into four period,then details the ideological contents contained in the edict of each period,which is very important to study the ideological,social,political,economic,military,cultural,diplomatic and other fields of the Jin Dynasty.The edict has a high historical value.The Chapter Three discusses the literary and artistic characteristics of the imperial edict.Although the edict adopts the applied style,but its literary attributes cannot be ignored.During the Jin Dynasty,the vast majority of the edicts were written in a solemn and elegant manner,with a precise expression of the text,a marvelous mood,a combination of the parallel and prose.On the basis of commonness within the edict,different contents of the edict has their own characteristics.This chapter will analyze the writing pattern and individual characteristics of the four most common edict's types,including appointment and dismissal,amnesty,conquest and rewards,in the Jin Dynasty.The Chapter Four explored the practical function of the imperial edict.The literary form of edict as an applied style,plays an extremely important role in the national administration.This chapter takes the specific political event that the western Jin Dynasty force to crusade against Wu,as an example to explore the role of the edict in the actual political activities.The conclusion summarizes this paper,which points out the stylistic features and practical functions of the edict,highlightens the stylistic effect of issuing the policy,reflects the significance of the edict.
