Report On E-C Translation Of Articles From Chongqing Currents

In English sentences,causality is expressed in either an implicit or explicit way.Sentences with implicit causalities refer to causal sentences without causal connectors,while Sentences with explicit causalities refer to causal sentences introduced by casual connectors.This thesis discusses the identification,classification and translation methods of sentences with implicit causalities on the basis of the translation of seven articles from Chongqing Currents.All the selected articles are written by native English speakers who stay or work in Chongqing.With the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence theory,the author has adopted two translation methods—“explicitness in linguistics” and “implicitness in linguistics”in the translation process.“Explicitness in linguistics” takes advantage of causal connectors to make clear the logic in target texts to be more readable,while“implicitness in linguistics” aims to achieve conciseness and rhythmic beauty without using causal connectors.On this basis,the author intends to gain equivalence in the expression of implicit causalities between English and Chinese through the dealing of problems concerning hypotaxis and parataxis,as well as explicitness and implicitness.
