Interpreter's Subjectivityin Consecutive Interpretation Under Feminist Translation Theory

With the occurrence of “cultural turn”,the subjectivity of interpreters has become a hot topic among the academia.The feminist translation theory is a combination of feminist movement and translation studies.As an important theory after the cultural turn,it advocates the adoption of subjectivity intervention strategies in translation so as to make the voice of translators heard by all the people in the world,and the manifestation of the subjectivity of translators can easily be found during the application of this theory.Most of the research done on the translation subjectivity is centered on the literature translation field,with interpreting being neglected.However,compared with translation,interpretation is more of an extemporaneous activity,there is little time for interpreters to think about words and sentences,and the choice they make are all out of sub-consciousness.Therefore the influence of the subjectivity of interpreters is more obvious.Moreover,with the rise in female's social status,people are in greater needs of gender equality during their daily lives andtalks,and people are more sensitive and critical about gender discrimination.Out of these two reasons,the author thinks these two theories are also applicable in interpretation study and in guiding interpreting practice.This thesis aims at,through experiment and questionnaires,exploring the manifestations of the subjectivity of interpreters during consecutive interpreting from the perspective of feminist translation theory,categorizing and analyzing different strategies adopted by interpreters and summarizing the reasons behind and the theirinfluences.Besides,the significance and feasibility of the feminist translation theory serving as a standpoint of interpreters during interpretation practice are also analyzed and explored.
