A Study On The Interpreter’s Subjectivity In Chinese-English Consecutive Interpretation From The Perspective Of Cognitive Metaphor

From the perspective of cognitive metaphor,metaphor can be studied from the point of cognitive science,which elevates the theoretical research on metaphor from the language level to the cognition level and meanwhile provides a new angle for exploring the interpreter’ subjectivity in C-E consecutive interpretation.The interpreter’s subjectivity in C-E consecutive interpretation is embodied in the process of weighing and choosing the interpreting strategies.When interpreting the expressions with Chinese cultural characteristics,the interpreter in C-E consecutive interpretation,constrained by various factors,has to rebel against linguistic forms and promote the transformation of the culture-specific metaphor into the cultural sharing metaphor based on the shared parts of the Chinese and English metaphorical systems,meanwhile,the interpreter should,on the premise of deferring to the speaker’s intention and ensuring the acceptability of the receiver,convey as far as possible the Chinese cultural characteristics in the re-expression stage under the background of Chinese culture “going out”.Based on theories on cognitive metaphor,with the interdisciplinary research method,the descriptive and prescriptive research methods,by theoretical analysis and case analysis,the Metaphorical Mechanism of the Interpreter’s Subjectivity in C-E Consecutive Interpretation is constructed in the thesis,moreover,the interpreter’s subjectivity in C-E consecutive interpretation is revealed from the point of the intercultural relationship by probing into the interpreter’s cognitive process of selecting the optimal interpreting strategies,afterwards some rules of training C-E consecutive interpreters are concluded.The thesis consists of four chapters,the first chapter overviews the previous studies on the translator and interpreter’s subjectivity,cognitive metaphor and C-E consecutive interpretation,the second chapter introduces the theoretical framework on cognitive metaphor in the aspects of conceptual metaphor,the cultural basis of metaphor and metaphorical systematicity,the third chapter through case analysis illustrates the interpreter’s subjectivity in C-E consecutive interpretation from the perspective of cognitive metaphor,putting forward the interpreting strategies of changing the metaphorical framework,replacing the conception in the source domain,compounding metaphorical frameworks and deleting the metaphorical framework,the fourth chapter discusses how to cultivate the interpreter’s subjectivity in C-E consecutive interpretation.The study aims to facilitate the global communication of Chinese cultural characteristics in C-E consecutive interpretation,and hopes to give some enlightenments to training C-E consecutive interpreters,which can expand the research space of the interdisciplinary studies on interpretation and further elucidate the interpreter’s subjectivity in interpreting activities in terms of theoretical values.
