"Farewell to Dongda" is a famous poetry written by Gao Shi from Tang Dynasty.Compared with other farewell poetries," Farewell to Dongda " not only actively describes the desolating fortress scenery and the sadness of farewell to good friends but also vigorously delivers the encouragements and comforts for friends.With the unique artistic background of this poetry,contemporary composers explore music arrangements by combining their understanding of this poetry and the style of music.This thesis analyzes the characters and styles of two “Farewell to Dongda” songs independently composed by Fu Xueyi and Zhao Jiping.Fu Xueyi combined the elements of Kunqu opera into his version.Therefore,this thesis studies the three singing styles as “characteristic,decency,performance and evaluation” proposed by Fu Xueyi.Zhao Jiping's creation of Chinese art songs is unique and elegant.Moreover,the similarity and individuality of these two songs are examined in this thesis,which are expected to provide hints for learners of ancient tune to sing these two songs.This thesis also compares and studies the different performances by two contemporary singers Wang Shufeng and Zhang Ningjia from the audio point.Our analysis will assist singers to accurately deduct the song of “Farewell to Dongda” by profoundly understanding the artistic emotions on this song by the composers.
