On E-C Trans-Editing Of Sports News Headlines From The Perspective Of Memetics

Due to the network page's layout,tens of thousands of news headlines are compressed in one page highlighting the importance of headlines.English Sports news headlines have their unique features like creativity,conciseness,and efficacy,which presents great challenges for translators to represent them in Chinese language.Based on the previous studies on news headlines and their translation,this thesis,in light of research findings of memetics,attempts to study E-C trans-editing of sports news headlines on the Sports Channel at Huanqiu.com.In the present study,Memetics and four typical features of English sports news headlines will be introduced.And four stages of meme replication suggested by Heylighen,namely,assimilation,retention,expression and transmission,are studied based on English sports news headlines.Trans-editing strategies will be proposed from the lexical and structural dimension in view of features of English sports news headlines.Trans-editors may bond English sports news headlines with strong memes to form new memes or memeplexes with a view to enhancing their readability and attracting readers attention.
