The English-Chinese Translation Of Sociology In The Era Of Big Data:the Ascent Of Forensic Social Science And The Translation Report

This thesis consists of the source text of Sociology in the Era of Big Data: The Ascent of Forensic Social Science,its Chinese version and the translation report.The original text explores the influence of the rise of big data on social science and the potential theoretical changes in this field.It is predicted there may be the possibility of a constructive synthesis across paradigms in what is termed “forensic social science”.The Chinese version provides domestic researchers with the latest findings on big data and social science,and the translation practice itself proves valuable in that it not only improves the translator's translating skills but also strengthens her comprehension of Nida's translation theory.The translation report introduces the source of the original text and its authors,and pointed out that the source text is an informative one and its language is characterized on the one hand by a large number of terms and long and involved sentences,and by the use of the personal pronoun “we” on the other.Examples are cited to explain the guidance of “functional equivalence” presented by Nida in this translation practice,including examples at the lexical,syntactic and stylistic levels.And the report ends with a summary of the translator's reflections.
