This dissertation is a translation report. The source book Data Science for Business is a science and technology work, which has 14 chapters in all. The translator selects the last chapter plus appendixes A&B to translate. Data Science for Business is co-written by Foster Provost and Tom Fawcett, who are both prestigious researchers in the field of data science. Compared with other techniques, data science is not only able to help non-professionals in many fields, such as social science, biology and so on, do researches, but also able to give businessmen tremendous assistance in improving competitiveness. In the source book, the fundamental concepts of data science are introduced, and in the last chapter, these concepts are summarized. Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, this report lists the specific example to explore the translation method in order to deal with the translation difficulties. This report consists of four chapters. Chapter One introduces the background information and the value of this project. Chapter two elaborates the preparations for the project. Chapter Three discusses the translation difficulties encountered and the solutions used to tackle with them. Chapter Four makes a conclusion about the translation experience gained through this project. |
