With the deepening of economic globalization,a large number of foreign products have crowded into China. As the key to learn about a product, the instruction manual plays the role of providing the product information and explaining the user specifications, but the translation performs so poorly that it has tarnished the corporate image.Instruction Manual for Operation and Maintenance–Rotative Labeling Machine,an English-Chinese translation project authorized by the company during internship,is discussed in this report, which includes the background introduction, the preparation, the case study and the deficiency, with the case study as the focus. In the case study, the report, applying Jef Verschueren's adaptation theory, analyzes the insturction manual translation from the perspectives of adaptability in linguistic structure, adaptability in contextual relationship, including preposition conversion, word addition, cohesion processing, explicitation and implicitation conversion and word order adjustment. In conclusion,in English-Chinese instruction manual translation, the translator needs to be clear about language differences so as to make dynamic adaptation according to different situations. It is hoped that this report will provide some help for instruction manual translation so that the corporate image will no longer be influenced by improper translation.
