This is a translation report on the fourth edition of C-Theory: Philosophy of Chinese Management(Chapter 4 Section 1-3),a book written in Chinese by Professor Chung-ying Cheng.This book fully demonstrates C-Theory,proposed by Professor Chung-ying Cheng and gives a dynamic,harmonious,and dialectical management model,thus laying a foundation for innovating philosophy of Chinese management.As a masterpiece in the field of management and a great philosophical work,the translated version plays an important role in introducing the philosophy of Chinese management to foreigners.C-Theory: Philosophy of Chinese Management was written,based on Professor Chung-ying Cheng's reflections and observations concerning the application of philosophies in Yijing.The source text(ST)contains numerous culture-specific words and philosophical terms;it also consists of short sentences,lacking conjunction words that would normally show logical relationships within the sentences.To comprehend implied meanings and compensate for cultural default in the ST,methods of annotation outside the text,contextual amplification,and paraphrase were applied under the guidance of translation compensation theory.To retain original information structure and follow conventions of target language,short sentences in the ST were converted into attributive clauses and present participle phrases in the target text(TT)in light of information structure theory and based on the analysis of logical relationships among sentences.While analyzing the translation of culture-specific words and short sentences in specific instances,this report probes the value and significance of translation compensation theory and information structure theory.
