An E-C Translation Report On Australian Short Fiction In The Presence Of Greatness

This report is based on translation practice of In the Presence of Greatness which is a short fiction written by an Australian poet and writer Glen Phillips.In the Presence of Greatness tells a ridiculous short story about Humbert Helport who is an Australian famous writer and also an alcoholic.The short fiction is exquisite in structure and simple in language,but it presents a significant life philosophy.Under the guidance of the translation principle of Domestication,the translator finished this translation practice and made a summary of translation difficulties and translation skills in the whole translation process.This translation practice report is divided into four parts.The first part introduces background of translation task,characteristics of the short fiction and a brief review of the Domestication Principle and the Australian literature.The second part introduces in detail the preparation of translation tools,translation theory,translation plan and translation proofreading.The third part is translation case analysis in which some difficulties and solutions in translation process are summed up.From the perspective of the Domestication Principle,amplification,omission,inversion and division are adopted respectively to solve translation difficulties of specific words and long sentences.The fourth part is a summary of the whole process of translation in terms of translator's the deficiencies and improvements.It is expected that this report will provide some help for Australian literary translators,play an active role in the translation of Australian literature,and ultimately promote the exchange and development of Chinese and Australian culture.
