A Report On The Translation Of Articles Of Association

This is a report on the work of translation,with the source text being the Amended and Restated Memorandum and Articles of Association(AoA)of an education agency based in South China and incorporated in the Cayman Islands in compliance with the Companies Law(2010 revision)of the Cayman Islands.The author came up with this report by means of describing the translation process and analysising typical problems and challenges encountered during the course of translating and report drafting,including the translation of archaic words,legalese and terms of art,as well as complex and long sentences.Admittedly,the AoA may cause reading problems with its formal,solemn and rigid writing style as a text type targeting legal professionals.In this case,the primary challenge comprises of legal knowledge contained therein,which include legal systems,shares,securities,tax law,banking,accounting,auditing,arbitration.In order to accomplish the translation task with qualified rendition,the author not only studied the linguistic features and discourse structure of the ST,but also collected and referred to parallel texts of the same nature,such as Second Amended and Restated Articles of Association of Ma Kuang Healthcare Holding Limited and Memorandum of Association of Yesmida(Hong Kong)Group Co.,Limited.In addition,after the self-proofreading,the author turned for help to legal professionals for the sake of standardized and professional language.This report is expected to discuss the translation of AoA by means of analysising the linguistic features and major mistakes made by the author himself in order to draw people's attention to techniques to be employed in translation of AoA and make his little contribution to studies on the translation thereof.
