Esoteric Buddhism is the school that presented when Indian Mahayana Buddhism developed into the final phase.Esoteric Buddhism was introduced into China during 710 s and 740 s in the Tang Dynasty by ?ubhakarasi?h,Vajrabodhi and their sisya Amoghavajra,and developed into the unique Tang Tantric through monk Yi Xing and Hui Guo's great efforts.Tang Tantric's development in the Tang Dynasty was in full flourish.There were two parts of Tang Tantric's impact.On the one hand,Tang Tantric was embraced by imperial house of Tang dynasty,and its ideology that benefits the nation and people was admired by the court particularly.On the other hand,Tang Dynasty was prosperous,both at culture and economy,and it is also the most vibrant period that Buddhism had in the history,no doubt,Tang Tantric was blossom at that time.Tang Tantric is a shining peal of Tang culture,it brought out religious art which is various and unique,that changed the time into brand new.Very pitiful,mentality of the imperial was totally changed,which led to extermination of Buddhism by Tang-wu-zong.After that,all Buddhist schools were suffered a heavy blow,so did Tang Tantric.Since then,Tang Tantric started to fade,along with rich and varied religious art of Tang Tantric.Following the urgent demand of renaissance for Chinese traditional culture,the academia begin to lay emphasis on study on Tang Tantric,those are about school history and doctrine theories mostly.This article,due to vacancy of decorative art of Tang Tantric,tries to form the framework of study on Tang Tantric's decorative art by combing historical and literature materials,so as to cover the shortage of study on Tang Tantric's decorative art,provide guidance for restoring the construction of Mandala in Tang Tantric.The study on Tang Tantric's decorative art of this article is based on its history,architecture,mandala,statues,apparatus and sadhana drubtab.The development process of Tang Tantric's decorative art was clarified in the second chapter by studying its origin,development and heritage in Japan.How India's decorative art for Tantric impacted Chinese,and how did Dong Tantric and Tai Tantric inherited decorative art of Tang Tantric,besides,relations between the three was clarified.The feature of Tang Tantric's decorative art was studied and summarized in the third chapter.Firstly,we take two building center of Tang Tantric as examples,raised an analysis of its feature from historical documents and present situation,respectively.Secondly,by clarifying relations between mandala and architecture,we figured out how it impacted Tang Tantric's decoration.Thirdly,we analyzed the application of Stupa in Tang Tantric's architectural decoration.After these studies,we compared Tantric's architecture in India,Japan and China,principle character of decorative art in Tang Tantric was summarized.In the chapter four,we aimed at mysterious decorative art of mandala,concluded its unusual religious beauty from aspect of decoration feature and knowledge.We realized that,through a fancy way of composition and vivid color system,mandala tells us what the Buddhist world is like.Statues,apparatus and sadhana drubtab in Tang Tantric was sort our in the fifth chapter.In the following,we sum up the lively feature of Tang Tantric's decorative art,as well as Tang Tantric's ideology reflection in its decorative art.This article focus on case of Taoist rites to investigate and study Tang Tantric's decorative art,so as to sort out how modern Mandala construction heritages form the traditional.
