This report is based on the author's internship experience at Xi'an Jianghong Translation Co.,Ltd.The author did Chinese-English translation of about 260 pieces of company credit report from May to Septemberin 2016.Based on the translation practice in May,June and July,the author summarizedthe textual features of company credit reports,summed up six major translation difficulties,and listed six applicable translation methods under the guidance of Newmark's Correlative Approach to Translation.In August and September,the author applied the six translation methods to the translation of company credit reports.It is found that similar translation difficulties were solved on a large scale,and the quality of translated texts was improved obviously.The major translation difficulties are reflected on both lexical level and textual level.Translation difficulties on the lexical level include mass use of hedges,omnibus Chinese abbreviations and uncommon financial vocabularies,and the corresponding translation methods are component analysis,expansion and paraphrase.Translation difficulties on the textual level include illogical sentence structure,redundant sentence components and untranslatable elements,and the corresponding translation methods are modulation,reduction and functional equivalent.This report is to give MTI students a preliminary understanding of company credit reports translation,and it may also contribute to on-job training for entry-level translators in related fields.
